"challenging the mountain"

its always nice when anons or other random people sign my guestbook. its the online equivalent of receiving an unexpected gift in the mail, two days before christmas on a year you've opted not to celebrate because you hate celebrating alone. i think what i am saying is: its oh so very much appreciated.

oh so very many challenges in embellishment.

june, what have you done to me? i have one more qualifying ride this weekend which happens to be in the oakland hills. i think the east bay and i have sorted out our differences, and we both simply agree to disagree. at least i'll know where some good trails are should i be allowed to return to campus in the fall. by "in the fall" i mean "in seven weeks".

a fact which i am putting out of my mind completely now while i focus on the tevis. assuming all goes well this weekend, i'm in. dear god. i prerode thirty miles of the trail last weekend, and there are some amazing views as well as amazing dropoffs. last year a horse died going over the edge, which makes me think that PETA has good reason to protest the sport. at least the ride provides optional MedEvac insurance. so if i tumble half a mile into a canyon, i get a helicopter ride. definitely worth it.

but i am excited and scared and nervous and anticipating a ride like none other. i don't know if this is what they call "finding your passion". it feels more like finding my own place to exist. i spend most of my life riding these days. the rest of it is wasted. i think that's how its supposed to be.
